When released in September 2019 Pan Machine received rave reviews from all points of the compass from Electronic Sound to The Financial Times. Conceived by producer Ian Shirley, the Ebony Steel Band took on classic Kraftwerk tracks like The Model, Neon Lights, Europe Endless, Computer Love, Tour De France as well as neglected gems like Kometenmelodie 2 and Tanzmusic.

The LP made Rough Trade’s top LPs of 2019 list and they sold out of their exclusive limited edition on red vinyl that was limited to 100 copies.

Pan Machine LP has been out of print for over a year and with demand still there it seemed fitting to repress and reissue this modern classic – on clear vinyl.

Ebony Steel Band have recently performed the Pan Machine material at the Jazz Cafe and the British Museum in London as well as at a festival in Wales in the Summer of 2022.

SOME REVIEW HIGHLIGHTS

“The results are a joyous revelation of usage of steel drums. The similarity of the synthesizers is uncanny, fitting in with these versions supremely well. The melodies translate expertly throughout the set delivering wonderfully complex soundscapes effortlessly. “ Gigslutz

“The band who mark their 50th anniversary this year serve up bright as champagne bubbles covers of cloud pleasers, but it’s the curveballs that stand out.” Electronic Sound.

“This though, is one of those rare re-creations that both works in its own right and sheds new light on the original.” Financial Times.

“I would even go so far as to say I honestly find Ebony Steel Band's renditions of classic Kraftwerk tracks more inspired than Kraftwerk's own live outings over the past two decades.” Brainwashed.

“The way the sound seems to hover in the foreground as the drummer gives gentle propulsion to each track lends them a completely different feel, and although you can’t fail to recognise the tracks, they are given a sensation of otherness.” Freq.
