Don Rendell is one of the legends of British Jazz. Although best-known for the classic albums like Shades Of Blue and Dusk Fire he recorded in the 60s as part of the Don Rendell Ian Carr Quintet he made his name in the 50s as one of the leading tenor players on the British scene moving from sideman to recording under his own name.
Thus, when Dick Jordan and his partner Geoff Williams set up their club, Klooks Kleek, the special guest on the opening night in January 1961 was Don Rendell.
Rendell went on to make numerous appearances at Klooks Kleek as he always drew a crowd. This date was recorded on 11th September 1963 with a line-up of Don Rendell (tenor/soprano saxophone). Kenny Baker (trumpet), Glenn Hughes (Baritone Saxophone), Johnny Mealing (piano), Chick Andrews (drums) and Lennie Williams (bass).
Licensed from Dick Jordan we are delighted to release this set on CD.
